Shaped by the staggering force of massive glaciers millions of years ago, Alaska's Inside Passage boasts wildlife-filled fjords and lush island scenery - habitat for bald eagles, sea lions, porpoises and whales. Its mountains are carpeted with majestic forests. Inside Passage Alaska is home to Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian Indians whose history is reflected in towering totem poles. Russian settlers left a legacy of onion-domed churches gleaming with icons.
Misty Fjords National Monument, Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, Admiralty Island National Monument, and the Tongass National Rainforest bring pristine habitats for not just wildlife but also ecological diversity and lush forest environments to the Inside Passage.
Small, tight-knit communities dot the waterways along the Inside Passage, each with their own personality. From the gold rush history of Skagway, to the natural beauty of Haines, the State Capital in Juneau, to the marine adventure and totems of Ketchikan and the island-studded waters of Sitka. The communities of the Inside Passage are home to both wonderful people and astounding natural beauty.
